While we will endeavor to provide regular travel safety updates, travelers should refer to the World Health Organization (WHO) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) websites for the latest information. updated on the covid-19 pandemic.

Please note that due to the WHO announcement on March 11, 2020 declaring COVID-19 a pandemic, COVID-19 is considered a planned event and certain coverages will not apply as a result. please read the details here.

If you are considering canceling your trip due to the covid-19 pandemic, please read your insurance policy carefully.

If your trip was canceled by your travel provider (eg, airline, cruise line, tour operator), you may be eligible for a premium coupon that you can use for future travel. am i covered if i get covid-19?

if you contract covid-19 before your departure, you may be covered for trip cancellation if there is a confirmed diagnosis, including proof of illness from your doctor that you are medically unable to travel at the time of departure. the output.

if you get sick with covid-19 during a covered trip, you could be covered for medical expenses, trip interruption, trip delay and emergency medical evacuation benefits if there is a confirmed diagnosis, including proof of illness from a doctor .

  • trip interruption may provide coverage for the unused portion of your prepaid, non-refundable expenses, as well as additional transportation expenses incurred to return home or rejoin your trip.
  • travel delay may provide coverage for additional expenses you may incur for hotel, meals, and certain transportation costs incurred if a doctor orders you to self-quarantine.

    what if i’m quarantined because i got covid-19 while traveling?

    what happens if i travel to a country that requires a covid-19 test when i arrive and i test positive?

    I want to cancel my travel plans because I’m scared to travel due to covid-19. Am I covered?

    trip cancellation due solely to concern or fear of travel related to an epidemic or pandemic, including covid-19, is not covered.

    united states the state department has advised against non-essential travel. am i covered because of the usa u? state department warning?

    There is no coverage for travel restrictions or travel advisories issued by any government agency or health authority. however, we suggest you contact your travel providers to request a refund. If you have other unused, non-refundable, prepaid travel costs, please refer to the unforeseen events section of your insurance policy.     can I cancel my insurance and get my premium refunded?

    You may be eligible for a refund of your premium under the following conditions:

    • you are requesting a refund from travel guard within 15 days of purchasing your policy,
    • your premium refund request is made before the departure date listed on your policy, and
    • has not filed a claim.
    • for residents of new york state or kansas, follow this link. click here to request your refund.

      if you canceled your insurance policy due to covid-19 related concerns but are not eligible for a refund based on the criteria listed above, you may be eligible to receive a travel insurance premium coupon for the full value of the policy purchased under the following conditions:

      • request a voucher before the departure date of your trip,
      • you confirm that you have not incurred any unused, non-refundable, prepaid travel supplier fees, penalties or travel costs, and
      • has not filed a claim.
      • Coupon can be used as a form of payment toward the purchase of a future policy. your new policy premium will be calculated based on the details of your new trip. If the new premium is higher than your original premium, an additional premium will be charged. If the new premium is less than your original premium, no amount of the original premium will be refunded. the voucher is a complimentary accommodation and has no cash value. Please note that once you cancel your policy and receive a coupon, you will not be able to make a claim against the original policy or trip.

        If I rebook my covered trip for later in the year, can I apply the travel insurance premium from my original trip to the rebooked trip?

        If the request is made before your travel dates, you can modify your insurance policy and apply the full premium paid to a new trip booked. To make a change to the travel dates listed in your policy, the new travel dates cannot be more than one year after the original travel dates. your new premium will be calculated based on the details of your rebooked trip. If the new premium is higher than your original premium, an additional premium will be charged. If the new premium is less than your original premium, no amount of the original premium will be refunded.         I have an upcoming trip. Will I be able to cancel my trip and receive a refund?

        It depends on the reason for the cancellation. If you need to cancel your travel plans, please refer to the “unforeseen” events section of your insurance policy for a list of reasons for trip cancellation that may be covered, along with general coverage exclusions. If one of the covered reasons may apply to your situation, you may be eligible to receive a refund for unused, non-refundable, prepaid travel costs if you need to cancel your trip.         what if the airline, cruise line, or travel provider cancels my flight, cruise, tour, etc. due to covid-19?

        If the airline, cruise line or travel provider cancels your travel arrangements due to covid-19, there will be no coverage under the insurance policy. however, we suggest you contact the airline, cruise line, or travel provider to request a refund.         Am I covered if I have cancellation coverage for any reason?

        if you purchased cancellation for any reason (cfar) coverage, regardless of the reason for cancellation, you may be covered for a percentage of the loss as long as the trip is canceled more than 48 hours before the scheduled departure date. the amount of coverage will be based on the level of cfar coverage purchased. click here to access a copy of your policy.

        can i buy a policy with cfar coverage?

        cfar coverage is only available at the time a plan is purchased and, unless otherwise stated in your policy, must be within 15 days of the initial trip deposit. As a result, if you have an existing insurance policy, you are not eligible to add cfar coverage.

        does travel insurance cover the cost of any covid tests required to enter or leave a country, such as the cdc testing requirements for air passengers entering the united states that take effect on 26 January 2021?

        no, travel insurance will not cover the cost of a general covid-19 test that may be required to travel. however, medical expenses may cover tests in the event the policyholder becomes ill while traveling and a doctor orders a test as part of a diagnosis. coverage is subject to the terms and conditions of your insurance policy. click here to access a copy of your policy.

        How do I obtain a letter that verifies the coverage of medical expenses, which certain countries require to enter?

        To request a letter verifying medical expense coverage, contact aig’s global travel service center 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 800.826.1300, or email us at travelguardupdates @aig.com. include the following information in the email:

        • travel guard policy number (if already booked)
        • name(s) of policyholder(s)
        • email address where you want us to send the letter
        • the destination(s) of your trip
        • the travel dates of your trip
        • your phone number and mailing address
        • Allow up to 5 business days from the date of your request to receive your letter. In some cases, additional time may be required for us to verify eligibility based on published country requirements, which may vary by destination.

          my destination requires a negative covid test (or other documentation such as proof of immunization/vaccination) within 72 hours of arrival. If I am unable to obtain this documentation (for example, due to unavailability), am I covered if I need to cancel or interrupt my trip?

          no, travel insurance will not provide coverage for this. We urge customers to periodically review entry requirements at their destination to ensure compliance with the latest entry protocols.
