When Is Open Enrollment 2023? Dates & Deadlines for Each State
The 2023 Open Enrollment Period (OEP) begins November 1, 2022 and ends January 15, 2023 in most states.

The table below shows the 2023 dates of operation for states that use the ACA federal exchange. coverage begins January 1. If you have a special enrollment period, your coverage will begin the first day of the month after you enroll. For example, if you sign up on February 15, your coverage will be effective March 1.

I missed my state’s open enrollment deadline. Can I still get health care coverage?
If you missed the enrollment deadline in your state, you may still qualify for a special enrollment period (September) that will allow you to apply for health insurance. You may qualify for a SEP if you have experienced a qualifying life event. qualifying life events may include:

- changes in the home such as marriage, divorce, death in the family, or having a baby.

Short-term health insurance coverage can be purchased outside of OEP for up to 364 days, and you can reapply for short-term coverage for up to 36 months in most states. Short-term health insurance plans can be a good temporary option for healthy people, as they won’t cover pre-existing conditions like Affordable Care Act (ACA) plans.
If you don’t qualify for a sep and decide not to apply for a short-term health plan, you’ll have to wait until 2023 open enrollment begins in the fall of 2022.
